If you want to go to Thropy as a judge, shadow judge / trainee, or debater – email in asap to register your interest. Thropy is the weekend of the 23rd May, we head up on the Friday afternoon and back on the Sunday evening. Flick an email to vicdebating@gmail.com with your expression of interest and, if you’re fussy, anyone you’d like to debate with.

Pro-Am is this Saturday 9 May. Again, if you’re interested, flick an email in by the evening of Wednesday 6 May. Add your debating experience too so that we can work out teams. Pro-Am is simply the best  way to get much much better at debating, by being paired up with a pro for the whole day.

Below are the teams for Pro-Am, but these are subject to change. Please check that your name is down there if you registered. Also check that your name isn’t there if you don’t intend to come. For either of these instances, please fire an email to vicdebating@gmail.com as soon as possible. There will be pizza for lunch for those competing, coaching, and judging. You may still want to bring some food as the day will likely be a tough one, or especially so if pizza happens to fall into a huge category of allergies for you.

Below are the teams. The capitalised name is the coach of the team. Pro-Am is all about getting heaps of advise from your coach and building on that in quick succession over the day. Please be prepared to have a lot of feedback given by coaches, and take this seriously as it can really help you to develop. Pro-Am is competitive but it is primarily about making great debaters. Also make sure that you seek coaching. Ask your coach questions that you have and also approach judges and other teams for those useful little chats.

If anyone is nervous about who their coach is, or wants to know who to pick out on the day, send me a text and I’ll make sure you know who you’re finding.

Pro-Am puts every novice debater with a more experienced debater for a day long competition complete with semi-finals and a grand final. It’s great to train you up really quickly, whether or not you intend to come to Thropy the very next week.

Pro-Am is on Saturday 10th May from 10:30 to about 5:30pm. To register, send us an email, by Thursday 8th May, to vicdebating@gmail.com or feel free to ask us any questions. People that are willing to judge or be a pro, please do this also.

Pro-Am is provisionally set for Saturday 10th May. It will be run by Kahy Errington, our development portfolio holder on general exec, and given last year’s success under her direction it will undoubtedly be a great success.
