Wed 10/3: IGM and Intro Night

Author: Seb Templeton

Hi all, welcome to the society! Come along to the Union Hall this Wednesday 10th March at 6:30pm. It’s our introduction night and a great place to start meeting people or, if you’re still deciding, do just that – decide to join the society.

We’ll have an introduction debate to show you what it’s all about, and we’ll be telling you a little more about the society. There will also be an election for a first year representative to serve on our executive committee and represent first year views. So if you’re first year you should have a think about whether you want to run for that position.

There will also be heaps of free pizza for all who come along, and we’ll be going to town afterwards for some great drinks deals and a chance to further meet and greet.

See you there!

This night is a great way to meet heaps of new people, to start to learn more about to debating, and we also elect our first year rep so it’s an important way to kick-start the year. See you all there!

Jane Pring – 1st Year Rep

Author: Seb Templeton

For those of you that weren’t around at the IGM and Intro Night at the start of the year, Debsoc elected a First Year Representative to be on our Committee. Jane Pring was elected into that role, and is going to be a wonderful asset for the Committee. You can now see her profile on the Committee page of this website. Jane is always around to chat to first years and make sure the Committee hears all that we need to from our biggest year group.

So if you’ve got any comments, questions, or anything at all – don’t be afraid to approach Jane, or you can email her at janepring@gmail.com.

A Year Underway

Thanks to all who came to last night’s Intro Night! Hopefully you were stuffed full of pizza (there was so bloody much of it) and had a great night at MVP after that. If people didn’t manage to sign up for the society or for Vic Champs, come and see a member of Committee next week or send us an email at vicdebating@gmail.com.

Also, huge congratulations to Jane Pring who was voted the First Year Representative on Committee. Jane won against heaps of first years who ran for the role – it’s great to see so many people getting involved early on in the year.

IGM and Intro Night

Come along to the IGM and Intro Night at 6:30pm on Wednesday 5th March! It will be held in the Student Union Building, where all Debsoc nights are held. The IGM part is an Interim General Meeting where our first year representative on Committee will be elected for 2008. Any first year member can run, and it’s a great chance to get really involved in Debsoc and get a stake on Committee to make sure first years always come, well… first. Committee members have to be prepared to attend meetings every Wednesday before Debsoc at 5:30 an be involved in the decision making and activities that Committee is involved in running.

After that short process is over there will be pizza for all and an introduction debate to show you all a little bit about how it’s done. From there we will head into town to a bar to enjoy some opening night drinks with a bar tab supplied by the society and plenty of nibbles. If you’re thinking about joining the society, definitely come along and see what you think. If you’ve already joined, this will welcome you to Debsoc in fine fashion. Either way, make sure you’re there.

More details will be posted soon about the bar of choice.
